In 2009 my husband and I embarked on our current circumnavigation by sailboat. During the first part of our trip we had our golden retriever with us. Her life with us aboard the boat inspired me to write these mini stories for children. Many situations are drawn from adventures we have had, places we have been, and people we have met.
Most children will never live at sea and many will never even see a dolphin, sea turtle or a whale. With these stories they will enter the world of Lily, dream and travel with her and Brandy on the ocean. They will learn about marine life, its fragility and how to best protect it. They will also be exposed to children from many parts of the world.
The story, Brandy the Sailor Dog, is told through the eyes of a two-year old golden retriever that can communicate with the animal kingdom. Brandy travels the world on a sailboat named GUPPY. She sails with eight year old Lily and her adoptive parents, Ben and Annie. Brandy likes her peace and comfort but always finds herself in the middle of a situation. She is brave, funny and has a little attitude. She never misses a chance to help or to get in trouble. For example, drinking from the kava bowl in a Fijian village.

The adventures of Brandy are based on true events sprinkled with a pinch of magic. Brandy is a two year old golden retriever and narrator of the story. She travels the world on a sailboat named GUPPY with eight year old Lily and her adoptive parents, Ben and Annie. Brandy likes her peace and comfort but always finds herself in the middle of a situation. She is brave and funny with a bit of an attitude. She never misses a chance to help or to get in trouble. After she rescues a dolphin named Sassy, her companion Sam tells Brandy they will ask a mermaid to reward her. A mermaid called Oceana goes to Brandy and offers her a magical gift under one condition. Brandy must demonstrate she has courage, selflessness and wisdom. Brandy really wants the gift. Can she prove to Oceana that she is worthy and can handle it?
For kids from 5 to 105 years.
